OPOS
/ UPOS Support with POSXpress3 Point of Sale
OLE for Retail POS (OPOS) is an object-based programming environment
for the development of Point-of-Sales (POs) terminal applications.
The OPOS standard allows Sandmar to develop applications such as
POSXpress3 to operate across a complete range of industry standard
POs terminals and peripherals without modification. This provides
retailers with maximum flexibility to select the most cost effective
hardware solutions for Point of Sale whilst retaining a single Point
of Sale software application. Epson, NCR, and ICL Retail Systems
in conjunction with Microsoft developed the OPOS specification which
is supported by a majority of hardware manufacturers including IBM.
The OPOS standard requires hardware vendors to provide OPOS compliant
OLE custom controls for their POs hardware peripherals.
UPOS is the Unified OPOS standard
